Life in a Florist Shop at Christmas:
The lead up to Christmas at Grand Flowers is a wonderful adventure — a whirlwind of colour, scent, laughter, and just the right amount of organised chaos. From wreaths, trees, bouquets and hampers to that first festive playlist of the year, this season brings out the joy (and occasional madness!) that makes floristry at Christmas truly unforgettable.
Here’s a peek behind the scenes at what life is like for us at Grand Flowers in the run-up to Christmas — and why, despite the long days and endless orders, we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Morning: First Cup and First Orders
Mornings in December don’t start quietly. They start with coffee, a huge calendar full of orders, and the hum of the team already talking through what needs to be made that day.
“Who’s doing table centres today?”
“Has Mrs Banks confirmed her delivery time?”
“Did we order enough foliage?”
And just like that, we’re off — scissors out, greenery at the ready.
Wreaths, Wreaths Everywhere
Christmas wreaths are our bread and butter this time of year. Some years feel like wreath season, with every available surface laden with fir, holly, ribbons and bows. The air smells like pine and possibility and, occasionally, like sap on fingers.
We’ll have orders with instructions like:
“Make it wild, make it wobble, make it wonderful!”
…and we do our very best to deliver exactly that.
Midday: Music, Mirth and Mild Mayhem
By midday our shop is a merry hive of activity — music on full, staff humming along, customers popping in for last-minute gifts or a chat about flowers for Christmas Day.
It’s also the time when the real Christmas questions start:
🎄 “Do you think I should put candles in the wreath?”
🎄 “How long will my poinsettia live?”
🎄 “Can you make a bouquet that looks like Christmas exploded beautifully?”
We love them all.
Afternoon: Orders, Deliveries, and the Odd Surprise
Afternoons are a mix of preparation and delivery. Some days we’re packing hampers; other days we’re loading the van with table décor for big family dinners or corporate get-togethers.
And sometimes customers bring surprises — homemade mince pies, a little chocolate, or a story about how last year’s wreath was the highlight of someone’s year.
Little moments like that make the long hours sparkle.
Team Moments
At Grand Flowers, the team are more than florists — we’re a little festive family. Our chats range from “What scent should we use for the candle display?” to “Can we play the Christmas songs yet?” (Answer: yes — from December 1st.)
Customers with Heart
One of the best things about Christmas in the shop is seeing people’s faces when they pick up their order or receive a delivery. Flowers and gifts at this time of year aren’t just beautiful — they’re emotional, meaningful and memorable.
Whether it’s
🎁 a gift for a partner,
🎁 something for a friend who’s had a tough year,
🎁 or a sympathy bouquet for someone who’s missing a loved one…
…it’s humbling to be part of those moments.
Late Evenings, Big Smiles
When the doors finally close, we collapse chairs, count supplies, tick off orders, and take a second to breathe. The day has been long, the pace relentless — but the work feels good. It feels special. It feels like Christmas.
We wipe down the counters, turn off the lights, and plan for tomorrow’s flowers, wreaths, deliveries, decorations and fun.
Then we go home — glass of something warm in hand — ready to do it all again.
From Us to You
Christmas in a florist shop is colourful, loud, messy and magical in equal measure. It’s about beauty, yes — but it’s also about people, tradition, laughter, and those small moments that make the season feel actually seasonal.
Thank you for being part of our festive journey — whether you’re ordering wreaths, popping in for a card, sending a gift, or just enjoying this time of year.
Here’s to candles, greenery, good music and Christmas cheer — from all of us at Grand Flowers!
